Earshot

Find where you are by listening

Earshot listens to planes passing overhead and works out where you are. No GPS needed.

How to use it

Pick your city on the map. A rough area is enough.
Put the phone outside: a balcony, garden, roof or open window.
Leave it still somewhere quiet. Nights work best.
Wait for planes. Near flight paths a fix takes 10–30 minutes.
Screen off is fine. Turn on "Keep listening in background" and plug in a charger.

"Compare with GPS" is optional: it only shows how close the guess got.

Your privacy

Sound stays on your phone. It is analysed as it is heard and never recorded, so conversations are never captured.
Nothing about you is sent unless you choose to share.

Help improve Earshot

Share anonymous listening data so Earshot gets more accurate for everyone. Audio is never recorded or sent.

Share anonymous listening data

Tones the app detected (not audio), nearby flights, its guesses, the search area, times and phone model, under a random ID.

Include my GPS position

Shows how close the guess was. Never used to find you.

Where should it look?

Drag the map until the dashed circle covers roughly where you are (city or region), and set its size. Earshot never uses GPS; the sound does the rest.
